All data in NatureCounts are accompanied by metadata. Metadata is a standard set of information that tells you about a dataset. It covers the scope of the data, how the data were collected, who owns the data, how to cite the data, and other useful information. It may also link you to a project website where you can find more information.

You can find metadata on the Datasets page of the NatureCounts website, or by clicking Learn More beside a dataset in the Download Data tool.

It is important to consult the metadata before you use any dataset from NatureCounts. This ensures that you have any important information you might need to use the data accurately and effectively, and to attribute the data properly in any published work.
