The NatureCounts app is used by dozens of citizen science and research projects covering a wide array of species, locations, and protocols. Many of these projects rely on volunteers to perform the bulk of their data collection, and the app is used by thousands of such volunteers every year.

The types of projects using NatureCounts are widely varied, and the app is growing to support more projects and more protocols. The programs currently using the app include:

  • Breeding bird atlases
  • Nocturnal owl surveys
  • Bird observatories
  • Species-at-risk monitoring
  • Regional conservation programs
  • Community engagement initiatives
